Cupcakes and neighbours
The other day while driving to breakfast, the husband said, ‘ You know, this day and age, people can befriend other people from some far away lands and talk to them, read about their lives a few times a day, but do not even know the names of their next door neighbours’
‘ Are you talking about ME???’ I demanded,
To which he responded with a cheeky grin, ‘ It’s a general statement but well, if you feel something to it then…’
During baking class, the teacher told us that if we bake cakes using telur ayam kampung and pure butter ( and not magerine/lepa susu and any other artificial fats ), the product will taste different and ‘very sedap‘. So today, I took out the cupcake book yet again and attempted Chocolate Banana Cupcakes with strawberry sprinkles. And using telur ayam kampung and butter from New Zealand. ‘Natural’ is the new hip slogan these days so I complied to what the baking teacher taught us.
He was right. Telur ayam kampung and natural butter made the cakes so ‘lemak ‘ and yes, in his word ‘very sedap‘. And we sent them cuppies to our neighbour on the left and the neighbour in front. We wanted to give the neighbour of the right too but they weren’t in. But at least now I know their names. I mean, I’ve always known their names since we moved in 4 months ago into this neighbourhood. Just that only we today we made the effort to befriend them.
